There will be five short films in this screening. From Minahasa rituals to Saigon’s night rides and dreamlike clubs, these shorts tune into sound as ceremony. Each film listens for myth, memory, and spirit within the pulse of the contemporary. Tropic Temper (2024) Director: Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee Runtime: 16 minutes Country: Singapore Language: English Rating: PG Synopsis A sonic exploration of Singapore’s layered identity, where Safuan Johari’s music underscores the city’s hidden histories and the forgotten rhythms of its disciplined tropics. Saigon Motor Angels (2024) Director: Chau Le Minh Runtime: 6 minutes Country: Vietnam Language: Vietnamese with English subtitles Rating: PG13 Synopsis A girl rides through Saigon at night on her motorbike, with director Chau Le Minh’s score weaving dreamlike soundscapes that mirror her drifting consciousness and fleeting fantasies. ‘Acadana Dreaming’ (7th Anniversary) Director: Rex Ren Runtime: 14 minutes Country: Hong Kong Language: Cantonese with English subtitles Rating: R21 Synopsis Created for a warehouse club’s seventh anniversary, this short depicts a young man and woman meeting in dreams within the club’s nocturnal space, with music shaping the ethereal flow of time and atmosphere throughout the encounter.
