Discover how stories from the Mekong region flow across cultures and borders through film. The event features panel discussions, networking sessions and a screening. Meet the filmmakers, connect with fellow creatives and explore new perspectives in the Mekong region's storytelling scene. Late Blossom 23 min | Romance, Coming Of Age, Night Life | Cambodia Directed by: Seakleng Song, Sokharo Hang Written by: Seakleng Song (Write & Eat alumni) Awards: Best Cinematography and Third Prize at the 4th Cambodia National Short Film Festival Synopsis: June, a night-shift worker, crosses paths with July, a mysterious woman. As they form an unexpected bond, their brief encounter spirals into a night on the run – from chasing gangsters to sudden intimacy. But by morning, July has vanished without a trace. 2. TOV ORT? (Will You?) 13 min | Psychological Drama, Coming of Age | Cambodia Written and Directed by: CHAT Seyhak Synopsis: Nita, a 19-year-old aspiring to become a teacher, had recently moved to Phnom Penh to pursue her degree. With only some money that she left in her pocket. Her hopes were high, but reality quickly set in. Her limited funds were quickly dwindling as she struggled to cover rent, utilities, and daily expenses. To make matters worse, her landlord demanded the next three months' rent upfront. Just as she was about to pay, a thief snatched her purse, leaving her penniless and desperate. 3. Last Dance 14 min | Love & Loss, Slice Of Life | Laos Written and Directed by: Phisitxay Sengvongsak Awards: Best Cinematography at Langxang Short Film 2024 Synopsis: A loving soon-to-be-married couple has been together happily since the beginning of their relationship. However, when they learn that the groom, is facing a serious health issue that may lead to his passing, they are left wondering what to do next. 4. YÊU ĐẸP (Love Beautifully) 17 min | Romance, Slice Of Life #Reunion | Vietnam Directed by: Paul Brenner Written by: Paul Brenner, Vi Nguyen Brenner Awards: Best Art Direction at Reel Deel Short Film Festival 2008 Synopsis: In her final hours, Phuong lies dying of brain cancer in a sterile hospital room, her mind fragmenting under the weight of disease and suffering. Disoriented and unaware, she exists in a state of chaos – throwing waste, lost to madness, her present reality meaningless. Yet through the fog of deterioration, one thing remains crystalline: a name she repeats endlessly, desperately. 5. Language Of Love 15 min | Mothers Love, Food ways, Slice Of Life | Vietnam Directed by: Dao Xuan Thong Written by: Putheary Phan (Write & Eat alumni) Awards: Best International Short Film Award at Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival 2022 Synopsis: A young techie always fights with his mom, because he usually skips his mom’s cooking meals at home, and likes eating outside. After knowing his real intentions, they both can see eye to eye. 6. One Without 4 min | Love & Loss, Stop Motion, Mockumentary | Laos Written and Directed by: Xaypaseuth Xayyalath (Write and Eat Alumni) Synopsis: An interview with a right foot – Khua (30) – who lost his wife six years ago. He shares how he lives with his owner today and recounts the days when he and his wife helped their owner plant vegetables while she was still alive. Khua reflects on their journey together: how they first met, learned to move, and grew alongside their owner. 7. Underwater 6 min | Friendship, Animation, Environmental Advocate | Laos Written and Directed by: Siliyoupha Keosavang Synopsis: The story of Nin, a boy who accidentally meets a giant turtle that is stuck in a fishing net by the village’s riverside, and he saves it. The giant turtle then returns the favor by taking him to visit the underwater world, leading to an adventure between the two of them that leads to unexpected events. 8. ĐÀN CÁ GỖ (Wooden Fish Guitar) 30 min | Family, Love, Slice Of Life | Vietnam Written and Directed by: Nguyễn Phạm Thành Đạt Awards: Best Short Film at Vietnamese Golden Kite Award 2024 Synopsis: After his father’s death, Cuong gave up his dream of becoming a musician to follow in his footsteps as a fisherman. Years later, burdened by the weight of daily survival yet wholeheartedly supported by his wife, he once again comes face to face with the dream of his youth. Will Cuong leave behind his father’s boat to pursue his unfinished dream in the city, or will he stay, clinging to the sea with the hope of providing a better life for his family?
