Mirrored Mind (2005)
Original Title: 鏡心
Director: Gakuryu Ishii
Runtime: 61 minutes
Country: Japan
Language: Japanese
Rating: TBC
SOUTHEAST ASIA PREMIERE
Synopsis
An actress struggling with identity is transported from the frenetic streets of Tokyo to a tranquil tropical setting. Hiroyuki Onogawa (August in the Water) provides a delicate score that shapes the emotional and spiritual journey, contrasting urban chaos with serene soundscapes. Mirrored Mind uses music and ambient sound to reflect inner states, turning visual and sonic elements into a meditation on selfhood, stillness, and spiritual peace.
Dozens of Norths (2021)
Original Title: 幾多の北
Director: Koji Yamamura
Runtime: 64 minutes
Country: Japan, France
Language: No dialogue
Rating: PG13
Synopsis
In this fragmented, reflective animation, the filmmaker records encounters across various ‘norths’ spaces marked by solitude and subtle shifts of perception. Koji Kasamatsu (sound designer of Serial Experiments Lain) crafts minimalistic textures, whispers, and environmental resonance that guide the audience through fragmented memory and perception. Dozens of Norths becomes an auditory map of fleeting recognition and quiet transformation, where sound carries the weight of place, experience, and reflection more than words or visuals alone.
