URCHIN follows Mike, a rough sleeper in London, trapped in a cycle of self-destruction as he attempts to turn his life around. Raw and absurd, the film is a story about the strange patterns that keep pulling us back.
Awards: Winner - Un Certain Regard for Best Actor & FIPRESCI Prize (2025 Cannes Film Festival)
Programmer's Note: Fresh, topical, and made with the kind of raw-edged zest that a first-time feature filmmaker typically exudes, actor Harris Dickinson goes behind the camera (and in front, in a small supporting role) as he directs Frank Dillane in a terrific performance as a homeless young man who tries to find a personal road to redemption after an act of violence. Dickinson's galvanising use of music in key moments and the film's sustained bouts of surrealism are standouts, providing an intoxicating atmosphere.
