A hen seeks refuge in a crumbling Greek eatery, guarding her eggs as a human tragedy unfolds.
At the heart of this surreal and haunting fable set in a decaying Greek seaside eatery is a runaway hen, fragile yet determined, who seeks refuge within the crumbling walls of an abandoned tavern. There, she struggles to protect her delicate eggs, embodying the instinct to survive and nurture life against impossible odds. As her small, intimate battle unfolds in the foreground, a deeper human tragedy emerges in the background – one of despair, loss and the slow erosion of hope. The contrast between her fierce devotion and the collapse of human lives around her becomes a powerful allegory of fragility, resilience and the will to protect what is most precious.
Featuring a stellar cast of eight real-life Hungarian chickens, this inventive take on a heroine’s journey, shot entirely from the point of view of its aviary protagonist, bears witness to Greece’s migrant crisis and offers a beady-eyed perspective on perseverance against all human odds.
