Synopsis
Ashik Kerib offers a faithful glimpse of Azerbaijani culture through the tale of a wandering minstrel, Ashik Kerib, who falls in love with a rich merchant’s daughter but is rejected by her father. He is forced to roam the world for a thousand and one nights to earn the hand of his true love.
Based on an Azeri short love story, a fairy tale by Parajanov’s favourite Russian poet, Mikhail Lermontov, Ashik Kerib was Parajanov’s last completed film. He dedicated this film to Andrei Tarkovsky, his peer and a rebellious figure of Soviet Cinema.
