Event Description
Winner of the Special Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival 2024, and nominated for Best International Feature at Oscars 2025, Mohammad Rasoulof's The Seed of The Sacred Fig is a modern fable of an Iranian family coming to terms with their father's complicity in the administration's civil service, and the slow unravelling that occurs when his suspicions begin a turn towards the domestic. A direct reaction to the Woman Life Freedom uprising of 2022 in Iran which were a precursor to the 2026 civil crisis, Rasoulof masterfully builds tension and momentum towards a climax that is as white-knuckle as they come, instilled with an urgency from contemporary times one will not soon shake off.
SYNOPSIS: In Tehran, the exemplary family of an investigating judge is tested by the dramatic events following a young woman’s death in police custody.
