Synopsis
The Lion City (1960)
In the first Chinese film produced by Cathay-Keris, a young woman who works in a clothes factory in Singapore falls in love with the son of the factory owner. What follows is a forbidden love story within the confines of social status, coinciding with the start of the progressive development of the country post-war. Featuring scenes of Old Airport Road and the first housing high-rises, The Lion City was one of the first films to bring Singapore’s natural sense of multilingual and multicultural integration to the big screen.
